Held in Sanctuary Cove’s picturesque Marina Village, overlooking yacht-dotted waters and sparkling blue hues, Sanctuary Cove Festival is worth visiting for its location alone. Now in its third year, the Festival is growing in popularity, attracting over 10,000 people each year. A fete of family fun awaits with activities for everyone, from toddlers to teens to grandma and grandpa, it’s a quintessential Queensland day out.
Located just footsteps away from InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, each year we welcome guests from all over the country to celebrate the all-ages, free-of-charge event taking place from 10 am to 4 pm. Themed up to celebrate ‘the finer things in life’, The Marina Village certainly rises to the occasion with a collection of luxury cars and vessels sprawling its shores. Our Chief of Concierge, Christian Espino, is on hand to reminisce on his festival experiences and guide you through how to make the most of the day with his ‘in the know’ tips!’
What is your favourite memory from the last three years of Sanctuary Cove Festival?
Being a huge car fan, I really can’t go past the first time I saw the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 on display a couple of years ago. While the festival has a collection of luxury cars on show, this one was just magnificent.
What’s the number one activity you would recommend to festival attendees?
Honestly, there are so many incredible activities for the whole family to enjoy. However, I’ve got to call out the ‘Learn to Sail’ class as a must. I’d highly recommend this unique water-bound experience, it's easily accessible to everybody and gives you a chance to learn a thing or two about boats. The market stalls lining the Marina are well worth a browse, lots of local suppliers showcasing pieces unique to the region, I always pick up something special there.
What are you most looking forward to seeing at the festival this year?
At the risk of sounding like a fanatic – the luxury car and boat collection. There’s classic vintage cars and top of the line displays from Maserati, Lamborghini and Mercedes Benz, not to mention the latest marine crafts. It’s only a few minutes away from InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, so I’m going to nipping back and forth throughout the day!
What makes the day such a special day for families?
Where to start – it’s just such a fun-filled day for the whole family with activities on offer for mum, dad and the kids. There’s free live entertainment all day, kids will go crazy for the trackless train and the obstacle course challenge! You can even ‘run away with the circus’ for the afternoon with circus-themed workshop, I mean, talk about having to juggle your itinerary to fit it all in.
Besides cooking demonstrations, a world of culinary finesse awaits mum and dad with the Marina precinct full of excellent dining options to cater for the family. Anchor Buoy Cafe & Bar makes the perfect pit-stop for a morning tea break, trust me you’ll need it after all the sight-seeing and exploring you’ll be doing in the Cove.
