Reputed for its waterfront restaurants, fresh seafood selection and effortless style, the Gold Coast is known to be buzzing with fine cuisine. Here, our Chief Concierge and resident foodie, Christian Espino, takes you through his personal ‘top five’ fine dining spots.
Sanctuary Cove has been buzzing about Burleigh Heads’ new hot spot, Rick Shores, so I decided to take the team out for a well-deserved afternoon of fine dining to see if the beachfront restaurant was really worth the hype. Stepping straight from white sands to Caribbean inspired interiors, you’re immediately drawn into coastal views and menus bursting with pan-Asian share dishes designed by Head Chef, Jake Pregnall. We had the most stunning seat right by the water’s edge – nothing but blue skies teamed with even bluer waves and the food was delicious, especially Rick’s fried bug roll hot n sour slaw which was a team favourite!
2.The Fish House
Just across the road from Rick Shores is one of the most awarded seafood restaurants on the Gold Coast, The Fish House. To ensure they keep their award count up and their menu well-balanced, the restaurant actually gets its fish flown in from South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania on a daily basis – so you know you are always experiencing the finest seafood Australia has to offer. Round off your dining experience with their product-focused wine collection, each bottle meticulously selected to partner with the restaurant’s seafood dishes.
3.Can Tho Kitchen
Owned and run by Vien and Thao, a husband and wife team, Can Tho Kitchen is a Gold Coast gem with a real home-feel infused in their signature dishes and interior design. Every time a guest asks me for a Vietnamese restaurant recommendation this is my answer – and they always come back raving about it! The atmosphere, the food and the quirky set up will have you creating memories and using their hashtag, #onetimeatcantho, in no time!
We’ve just come out of ‘truffle season’ and I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to say goodbye just yet! Little Truffle has been one of Mermaid Beach’s most popular fine dining spots for the last six years, creating menus based on a winning philosophy: cooking food they themselves love to eat. Try the braised beef cheek potato gnocchi with truffle cream – proof that we need to keep ‘truffle season’ going all year long.
5.Glass Dining & Lounge Bar
Home to exquisite wines, yacht-dotted water views and award-winning menus; Glass Dining & Lounge Bar is one of the most sought-after vantage points to watch the sunset over Sanctuary Cove. I’ve spent many long afternoons sat on the outdoor deck, enjoying waterfront views with dear friends – and I suggest you do the same!
