Insider Golf Guide: The Palms Golf Course

The Queensland Life

Located within Sanctuary Cove, only a few minutes away from InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, we invite you to master your swing on The Palms Golf Course

Who designed The Palms Golf Course and what are the course's major features?

The Palms golf course has recently undergone an $8.8 million reconstruction and was redesigned by renowned golf course architect Ross Watson. After its reopening in April 2011, The Palms is considered a championship course rivalling some of the best golf courses in Australia. It has a total length of 5904 metres off the championship tees, and has numerous water features and hazards.

Tee placements have been designed to suit a variety of playing conditions and a diverse range of players. Nestled within century old Cabbage Palms, The Palms Golf Course is a return to the traditions of the game, with distinctive holes, deep greenside bunkers and boldly contoured greens requiring creative shot making.

What is the slope and rating of the course?

  • Black Men 130/72
  • Blue Men 125/70
  • White Men 121/67
  • White Women 127/73
  • Red Women 122/69

What is the yardage in yards and metres?

The Palms Golf Course is 5904 metres and 6456 yards.

What sets The Palms Golf Course apart?

Tee shots are far more open than most courses, with wider fairways and rough populated by palm trees that offer less challenging escapes, as well as some holes that allow high handicappers to miss a fairway over.

What is the stand-out / most memorable hole on the course?

The Palms signature hole is the par 3 sixteenth hole. Although this hole only measures 146 metres it is all water carry to a narrow green surrounded by deep bunkering. Definitely a sleeping giant!

Insider Tip: Make sure your putting game is on point as the greens at this course are very fast and water hazards abound – prepare by brining lots of extra balls…just in case!
