InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort might have a reputation for being a relaxation haven; but it’s also an action- and golf-lover’s paradise. With its prime position located next door to two of Australia’s premier golf courses, we welcome hoards of passionate golfers from all over the world every year. Whether you’re a golfing couple who love to tee off as a team, or you’re a group of gentlemen looking for a fun fellas’ getaway, here’s how to ensure the ultimate escape at the Resort with a whole lot of golf on the agenda.
Step one upon arrival at the Resort calls for an unwind and relax by the newly revamped iconic blue lagoon – the ultimate spot to rest, reset and get in the right headspace for your golfing (we all know it’s a game of the mind). Flanked by a selection of pool lounges and stretches of soft white sand, the blue lagoon is where you want to be for a spot of swimming, sun and relaxation prior to your golfing tournament. You can order snacks and cold brews by the pool without having to leave your little slice of paradise.
In good spirits
For the gentleman’s getaway, it’s not a real golfing holiday without whiskey, and there is no better spot than the ambient Verandah Restaurant & Bar, which is home to more than 50 rare and award-winning varieties. Journey through some of the globe’s finest tipples, from Scotland to Ireland, America to Japan, and of course, our homeland Australia. Cold brew lovers will also be pleased with the wide range of local craft beers and wines of the region as well as cocktails inspired by the Resort's tropical surrounds.
Hole in one
This is what you came for and this is where the fun begins. Sanctuary Cove is home to Australia’s only Arnold Palmer signature course, The Pines, plus one of the Gold Coast’s best-kept golfing secrets, The Palms. The Pines offers amateur and professional golfers an exclusive experience, with the strictly members-only course being opened up to InterContinental guests. With a course rating of 74 off the black tees and 72 off the blue tees, it offers a very special golfing adventure.
On the other side, The Palms is an architecturally designed course that rivals some of the best in Australia. Nestled within century-old cabbage palms, it’s a return to the traditions of the game, with distinctive holes, deep greenside bunkers and contoured greens requiring creative shot making.
Feast at The Fireplace
There’s no better way to celebrate (or commiserate) your golfing tournament than ending with an exquisite dinner at the Resort’s fine-dining restaurant, The Fireplace. Mark the end of the ideal golfing getaway with a hearty wood-fired meal teamed with wines from the restaurant’s 300-strong wine library. From lamb striploin to pork belly, and miso-glazed tune to seared scallops, The Fireplace boasts a rich and varied menu that will please the vegetarian through to the meat lovers.
