The Queensland Life
The Luxe Life

Do you picture yourself with a drink in-hand as you take in the balmy vistas as the warm evening summer breeze sweeps through your hair and you breathe in the peace and quiet?  Suddenly you’re jerked back into reality as your exuberant kids are set onto repeat for a chorus of “what’s next”?!  Here is our exhaustive guide to exhaust the kids this summer so you can enjoy your drink and balmy vistas as they fall into a satisfied deep sleep.

1.       Paradise Country

Paradise Country is a must-visit for animal loving, adventurous kids that want to get out and about.  With everything from an animal nursery where the kids can get up close to the animals or a show that will give them an insight into animals from stockhorses to sheep shearing or even experience breakfast with a Koala for a true bucket-list tick!

2.       The Beach

With the Gold Coast hugging the Coastline and boasting some of the world’s best beaches, a beach visit is a must.  Head South to Snapper Rocks to check out some great point breaks (& even try to spot world-famous Surfers Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson who call the area home!) For the rookies, venture to Greenmount is calling your name.  Surfers Paradise beach is the tourist mecca and namesake of the area. You can grab a gelato and stroll along the boardwalk or build some Surfers skyscraper sandcastles.

3.       Game Over

For the adrenalin junkies and competitive sorts…head to Game Over, located just a short drive from InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort. Here you’ll find in-door go-karting, lazer-tag, wall-climbing, virtual-reality experiences and an arcade for some old-school fun for mum and dad as well.

4.       Broadwater Rockpools

For a great free activity especially for the very little people, Broadwater Parklands is calling your name. A water-play area that sprays, showers and pools water for the littles ones to cool off in. Described as a ‘sculptural water playground’ and comes complete with a Lifeguard during opening hours, it includes a creek bed and several tidal rockpools for children to explore.

5.       Summer Ice Cream Festival

ICE CREAM?! FESTIVAL?! Cool down after the day of activities and make your way to Helensvale’s Nightquarter Saturday January 13th from 4pm to 10pm to (over)indulge in scoops of your favourite cold stuff…and don’t think it’ll be any old scoop…these guys are scooping into donuts, honey puffs (and cocktails to ensure Mum & Dad have a fun time too)!

6.       Rock On – Kids Air Guitar Workshop

Rock out at HOTA Home of the Arts with a free kid’s air guitar workshop from Wednesday 9th January to Saturday 12th January.  Expend that energy with moves they’ve seen Dad bust on out when his favourite song blasts. For kids aged 8 - 12 years old.
