On Monday March 19, InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort was delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed wedding stylist Karen Tran through its doors for one of her extraordinary floral styling masterclasses.
Crossing the globe from California, Karen arrived in Sanctuary Cove to an eager bunch of budding florists and wedding stylists for her three-day masterclass, which saw her and the students transform our gorgeous wedding chapel into a floral wedded wonderland that completely resembled one of her signature wedding receptions.
Karen Tran is the wedding stylist guru, so to have her in our very own Resort was a ‘pinch-us’ moment. Karen has been planning weddings and events and designing in her stunning style for more than 20 years. She is known as one of the globe’s leading wedding designers and is considered a trendsetter in her field. Her exquisite floral sculptures (because they really are a work of art) are easily recognisable and she has been lucky enough to work with an array of high profile clients.
Responsible for bringing Karen down under is Alysia Bridger from Celebrations by Alysia, who is a highly sought Gold Coast-based wedding and event stylist in her own right, whose jaw-dropping aesthetic is strongly reminiscent of Karen’s. Alysia is known as one of the coast’s premier luxury wedding stylists and it was hugely beneficial to have her on site to help guide through the masterclass process.
Day one saw the class commence the hands-on experience in the romantic chapel space, perfectly lit with natural light and floor-to-ceiling windows. Sitting within the tranquil space were the thousands and thousands of flowers that were to be used for the next three days to build the ultimate swoon-worthy reception setting. There were roses in many colours and forms, elegant tulips, lashings of stunning orchids and an abundance of florals to captivate.
Over the course of the masterclass, the group built the ultimate table centrepieces, packed to the brim with hundreds of flowers. The signature Karen Tran look is all about creating layers upon layers of flowers which build up to a beautiful and bountiful display. Then come the floral walls, which are incredible structures to behold. This is where the room starts to take shape. Furniture is rolled in, lighting is installed, table settings are designed and the entire space starts to resemble a dream destination wedding reception.
By the end of the three-day class, the chapel was transformed into a magical floral haven and mock wedding reception, which was used as a dining space for the Wednesday night dining experience that guests were treated to, hosted by the lovely Karen.
We would like to thank Karen for choosing InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort for her second-ever Queensland masterclass and sing the praises of all the sponsors and supporters involved with this event – the results were immaculate and certainly had us swooning!
