What’s happening in Sanctuary Cove’s Marine Village this Lunar New Year?


Ring in the Chinese New Year at The Marine Village from February 16 to 18, with three days of colour, culture and cuisine! Located a short 5 minute walk from the Resort, the marina will come alive with traditional Chinese celebrations including fireworks, lion dancing and a delicious New Year Banquet as well as free family-friendly fun and activities for all ages on the Sunday. We’re sharing what’s happening in Sanctuary Cove this Chinese New Year.


Friday February 16, 8pm sharp

Customary in the Chinese culture, visitors to The Marine Village on Friday can enjoy a spectacular display of fireworks to launch Chinese New Year celebrations. Believed to drive away evil spirits, the fireworks will signal the beginning of the Lunar New Year. Gather your family and friends, grab a picnic rug and enjoy the fireworks over the marina from The Village Green. 


Friday February 16 and Saturday February 17, 7-8pm

The Docks will surge with a vibrant array of colour and festive sounds on Friday and Saturday evening, as visitors enjoy a traditional lion dance performance. Marvel in the grandeur of traditional lion dancing as their highly embellished, bold costumes brings them to life. A celebratory tradition, the Chinese dance is said to bring good luck and fortune as well as ward off bad spirits.


Friday February 16 - Sunday February 18, 6pm  

The Marine Village's iconic waterfront Chinese restaurant Dragon Cove Chinese Cuisine will dish up its decadent Chinese New Year Banquet on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening in celebration of the festive occasion. The Banquet will include a mouth-watering mix of authentic Asian favourites including Spring Rolls, Xiao Long Bao, Stir-Fried Garlic Vegetables, Yangzhou Fried Rice, as well as a choice of mains such as Sweet & Sour pork or chicken, Four Seasons Beans and Black Pepper Eye Fillet and finished with Fortune Cookies. Adorned in traditional tones of red and gold, Dragon Cove will also host live Chinese music each night from 6pm to 7.30pm as diners enjoy the annual feast, in addition to a special lion dance performance to signal an end to celebrations on Sunday evening.

Sunday February 18, 11am - 2.30pm  

To end the Chinese New Year celebrations, The Marine Village will host a free family fun day for visitors of all ages! With traditional Chinese music and a host of activities for the kids, including a jumping castle and face painting, there will be something for everyone. Staying true to the New Year celebrations, little ones can even try their hand at traditional Chinese calligraphy classes and lantern painting.
