With 2018 in full swing, it’s time to put the spotlight on the top event trends for the year ahead. Whether you’re looking to elevate your client launch or go all-out with a lavish social celebration, it doesn’t hurt to have that extra in-the-know insight into what’s trending so you can take your next event to a whole new level. Below are some of the top trends you should consider for your next event.

Unique venues

It’s all about the bespoke experience when it comes to today’s events, rather than the standard cookie-cutter scenes that have already been done. With a wealth of venue options coming from all directions, people are now choosing to hone in on unique, non-traditional venues in interesting locations that have that something extra special to offer. These could include pop-up spaces, poolside soirees, cultural institutions or even zoos. It’s all about centring the venue around your theming and style and the sky’s the limit.

Savvy technology

In the digital age, it’s no surprise event planners have turned to technology to ramp up their events. There’s an array of high-tech platforms event planners can now use to garner guests’ preferences and discern patterns in activity, letting organisers create a curated experience that ensures maximum impact and engagement for all guests. Progressive event planners are turning to artificial intelligence for things like chatbots, which can answer basic attendee questions swiftly through an event app, or even before your event, through platforms like Facebook Messenger. Plus, let’s not ignore the ultimate party-starter – virtual reality. Virtual reality devices have been popping up more and more at events and this element will really take guests to a whole new dimension… literally.

Inject local flavour

Utilising the treasures of the local area and injecting them into your event is a great way to add flair and originality, which will be sure to blow guests away. Local flavour means adding something unique that guests cannot get anywhere else, which could be anything from the cuisine to the surrounding attractions, which can lead to an incredible guest experience. Think gourmet produce from nearby provedores, private performances from a local artist or musician or guided tours and outdoor experiences. Or, perhaps think about gifting your guests with a local souvenir.

Interactive displays

People love to get involved and be a part of something fun. You can make sure guest engagement is elevated at an all-time high by providing something for them to get their hands stuck into.  Depending on the size and style of the event, look into things like cocktail masterclasses or fresh juice stations. Also, interactive dessert tables are a huge trend right now – think chocolate walls where guests can break off their own slice of goodness or a sweets tree for the picking. Plus, and we admit this one has been around for a while, but the photo booth is always a classic favourite and is a trend that we don’t see waning any time soon.

Styling: gorgeous greenery

This one is not particularly new, but this year it’s all about taking your greenery to the max. Gorgeous greenery is often a go-to for stylists and event planners as it can really amp up a room, but this year you will see this element elevated to a whole new level. Think palm trees, huge vignettes featuring lots of mix-matched ferns, hanging plants and mega floral installations.
