With the winter school holidays on the horizon, it’s time to start planning activities for the next two weeks while the kids are at home. There’s oodles to do through this period, from family friendly food festivals to live music performances and days out at the market. Plus, we can’t forget the Gold Coast’s famous theme parks that are sure to entertain both kids and adults alike.

Here are our top picks for what to do these school holidays on the Gold Coast.  


Taste Tweed Winter Food Festival  

Running for 31 food-focussed days, the Taste Tweed Winter Food Festival is a fun-filled activity for the whole family. Running through July, the festival will host a series of food-related and family friendly events along the stunning coastal areas of the Tweed Shire. 
The festival’s main focus will be on the amazing Tweed region – its people, its produce and its places. The Peppers Signature Dinner at Season’s Restaurant, the Fashion and Food Show and the Taste Tweed River Cruise are always popular events but there are also a bunch of new and exciting additions to the program including International Chocolate Day – we’re sure you won’t be able to pry the kids away from this one.

Sanctuary Market  

The Sanctuary Markets will take over the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary every Friday night through June and July on The Village Green’s deck and dishes up a great selection of international cuisines to tuck in to including Thai, Vietnamese and Turkish. Pick up unique loot from the craft stalls and market-fresh produce, from Australian seafood to earthy fruit and vegetables.  
Also (warning: adults only), there will be boutique beers from Burleigh Brewery’s, plus wine from Sirromet Wines that can be enjoyed over the live music. The twilight market is perfect for families and any funds the Sanctuary generates will go back towards its operation in Currumbin. Free off-street car parking is available.

Viva Surfer’s Paradise  

Family friendly VIVA Surfers Paradise pays homage to the world's greatest music legends over 10 days of free and ticketed events, for an adventure out that includes live music and memories that have shaped popular musical history. 

VIVA Surfers Paradise is Australasia's largest tribute artist festival and features entertainment from some of the world's best tribute artists as well as the ever popular Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest. In 2018 crowd favourites will feature again, including the Renewal of Vows Ceremony officiated by Dean Vegas, and the car show 'n' shine, with so much more still to be announced!

Theme parks  

Whether you’re an actual kid or just a big kid at heart, the world-famous theme parks are a must-do when on the Gold Coast. Promising wild rides, heart-thumping thrills and wilderness adventures, stepping into these parks take punters to a whole new world of fun and fantasy. Here, we provide the low-down on what to do and see at the top four to guarantee a top time. Move World, Seaworld, Dreamworld and Wet n’ Wild are without doubt the top four – and you can read more about what goes on at each here.


Neil Finn with Orchestra  

Parents, this is the ultimate opportunity to ring in a babysitter and enjoy a romantic night out as the Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts presents Neil Finn, one of the world’s greatest song-writing masters under the stars on the spectacular outdoor stage. Celebrated front man of Crowded House and prolific artist, Neil Finn and orchestra promise a musical journey paying tribute to his recent album Out of Silence. This is the perfect time for lovers to stand arm-in-arm and enjoy a little bit of romance sans children.
